RIPPERSHOT

Press ⇧⌘1 anywhere. The window you're looking at gets shot and lands in the target you pick:

free • macOS 14+ • Apple Silicon • menu bar app • no servers, everything stays on your Mac

Under the hood

One keystroke, four moves

01

CAPTURE

ScreenCaptureKit shoots the frontmost window at native Retina quality. Same pixels as ⌘⇧4, zero clicks.

02

ARM

The PNG hits your clipboard instantly. Even if everything else fails, you can always ⌘V it yourself.

03

LOCK ON

RipperShot brings your target forward and finds the real chat composer through the Accessibility tree.

04

DELIVER

Paste, then confirm the attachment actually appeared before reporting success.

No silent failures. If RipperShot can't verify the paste landed, it says so and leaves the shot on your clipboard. It will never claim success it didn't see, and it will never paste into an editor where an image could create files.
Targets

Built for Claude Code in VS Code

VS Code • Claude Code DEFAULT

RipperShot locates the Claude Code panel's message box in your frontmost VS Code window, clicks it, pastes, and confirms. If the panel is closed it opens it for you (the extension's own ⌘Esc).

Works with the official Claude Code extension. Multiple VS Code windows? It targets the one in front, always.

Claude Desktop

Finds the chat composer, pastes, and verifies the attachment chip appeared. Respects the per-message image limit instead of silently eating shots.

Terminal • AI CLIs

Terminals ignore an image ⌘V, so RipperShot sends ⌃V, the paste-image key used by Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, and most AI terminal tools, then reads the screen back for the [Image #1] chip to confirm it landed.

Install

Thirty seconds, tops

Option A • terminal one-liner (recommended)skips the Gatekeeper "unverified developer" dance
# download, install to /Applications, launch curl -fsSL https://ripperradar.com/rippershot/RipperShot.zip -o /tmp/RipperShot.zip \ && ditto -x -k /tmp/RipperShot.zip /Applications \ && open /Applications/RipperShot.app
Option B • download in your browser
  1. Grab RipperShot.zip and unzip into /Applications.
  2. macOS will block the first open (indie-signed app). Go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and hit Open Anyway.
First run: RipperShot walks you through two one-time permissions. Screen Recording (to take the shot) and Accessibility (to press ⌘V for you). Grant both once and you're set. Hotkey, delivery target, capture sound, and flash speed are all in Preferences.

Private by construction

No network calls, no analytics, no accounts. The screenshot goes to your clipboard and into the agent window you chose. Shots are cached locally for preview and swept after a day.

Open source lineage

Forked from ClaudeShot (MIT) and rebuilt in Nashville for VS Code and Terminal delivery with verified pasting.
